The wreck
In her glory - click to see the old site
Monday morning, Sept. 27th, 2004, at 10am - I was headed back to my apartment after staying the night at my parents. The roads were wet as a result of the remains of Hurricane Jeanne coming through the area. I was going the speed limit (55mph) along with a group of cars when I hydroplaned and swerved on the road... I managed to not hit any other cars, but did shoot down an embankment, twist around and - while going backwards, bounce off a telephone pole.

On impact the outer shell of the door was ripped from the car - with parts of the door mechanisms ricocheting off the pole and into the car... passing me, and landing in the passenger seat. One of these pieces was a metal rod - how it didn't impale me, I don't know. The driver's side window blew out on me and covered me in glass. I was wearing my seatbelt, but it didn't stop me from getting slammed into the driver's side door on impact where I hit my head and entire left side of my body. Amazingly, the only physical damage (outside of aches and pains from the impact) was a gash in my arm and a few scratches from the glass here and there.

The car was totaled. The driver's side door was pushed in and impossible to open. I was pulled from the car out the passenger side window, and then taken to the ER for tests - including a cat-scan and numerous X-rays. All came back clear. A little shaken, all I recieved were 9 stitches in my arm.

I feel blessed to be here. I remember the whole thing, and people on the scene seemed surprised I was sitting there conscious after the hit I took.

Thank you to everyone for their prayers and good wishes. I'm not leaving the car community - don't worry! I'll be back with something better than ever in a couple months. Just you wait!
